Summary – Shamballa Moon – Private Villa Ubud, Bali
Shamballa Moon was the first private villa Ubud, Bali we stayed at. The villa is adjacent to the Shamballa Residence operated by the same owners. Right upon arrival it was clear, that this place would be a magical stay. The beautiful property paired with its amazing staff made for a fantastic atmosphere. This was our first time to Ubud, Bali and having such a great home base to explore from made our stay just that much better.
I should mention that this was our first time staying at a private villa vs. a hotel room or AirBNB apartment but I would pick the privacy, luxury and space of a villa over a hotel room every time now. There are a lot of Private Villas in Ubud and the surrounding area and I think we where lucky to stumble upon this one.The owners Atsu and Wendy where very helpful in organizing a driver to the Private Villa Ubud and in making our stay an amazing one.
The Shamballa Moon Private Villa Ubud is located just 6km (4 miles) or a 15 minute drive away from the Ubud city center which has a ton of amazing restaurants, cafes and shops. To get to the private villa you turn off a main road onto a very small unpaved road leading through luscious green trees and bushes into a jungle like forrest. Looking out onto the valley off a hill behind palm trees your private pool features a great view but still ensures you have privacy. You don’t have to worry about people watching you.
The Villa is VERY private. Even for the staff to enter they have to walk through a long walkway on the side of the villa to enter through the pool area. Directly at the pool you have a dining table, 2 recliners, a lounger and a huge round woven day bed under a pavilion. Directly from the pool area you enter into the lounge through big sliding doors into the private villa.
On the Ground floor you have a huge living room with a decent kitchen and generous sofas and a TV to chill out. After passing through the living room you can get to the beautiful outdoor bathroom which also can be accessed from the private pool. This master bathroom features an outdoor bathtub, shower, toilet and double sinks. The bedroom is upstairs and has it own bathroom with a shower and a toilet. Even the bedroom has huge sliding doors that can be opened up completely. This kind of makes it feel like you are sleeping outdoors. The bed can be covered with a mosquito net.
The owners of the Shamballa Moon Private Villa Ubud but a lot of thought into the Amenities of their villa. Besides a kettle with coffee and teabags you can order Nespresso from the staff. There are bottles of water (I counted 10-12) spread throughout the entire private villa. A nice feature is the Bose loudspeaker in the living room that can connect to your smartphone via bluetooth or cable. of course there are soaps, shampoos, plenty of towels and a safe.
The private villa has its own wifi network that was fairly fast. I was able to upload videos to youtube and even stream some Netflix and Amazon Prime during the night I couldn’t sleep due to jet lag. We both had bought SIM cards from a great service called Simjek (www.simjek.com). You basically can order a sim card for your smartphone or mobile hotspot and they will deliver it to you when you land at the airport or even to your private villa in Ubud or anywhere else on the island for that matter. The rates are the cheapest I could find in Bali and the internet connection was setup and ready to go. Signal strength was very good and the 4g connection was super fast.
The Shamballa Moon Private Villa Ubud staff prepared us a very tasty dinner that we ordered of a prefix menu. The food tasted traditionally balinese to us and was nice and spicy (as we had asked for that). They also have quite a few menu options you can order any time. They also have around 6 bottles of wine and a few beers that are very inexpensive. Breakfast was ala cart and needs to be ordered the day before. We had huge plates of fruit, American breakfast and traditional Balinese breakfast (Nasi Goreng and Indonesian porridge). Everything tasted phenomenal and fresh.
This is where the Shamballa Moon Villa really shines. The entire staff was very helpful an friendly. Room service (the wine) was brought promptly. They offered a turn down service in the evening. The villa was tidied up several times throughout the day. Overall we never felt like we where missing anything or that we where bothering anyone when asking for something.
